start somewhere

Welcome to klockodile.com!

I’m torie klocko and I’m turning 30 this year. I have always enjoyed writing, but for as long as I’ve been able to admit that, I’ve also been inconsistent about practicing or creating a writing habit. Maybe it’s thanks to this transitional moment in my life (or perhaps simply in spite of it) that you’re reading this now. You know what ‘they’ say… you gotta start somewhere.

Well, this is my start.

My goal in creating this blog is to stop the endless cycle of repins, reposts, remixes and retweets, repeating the opinions, works, ideas and pieces of others. I’m tired of all the [re]circulation. This is an attempt to add something to the world that is uniquely mine, to explore, to be still in my own thoughts, to listen to the voices of others, to truly observe, listen and perceive my environment without judging it, to make space to experiment and to make mistakes.

A lot of thought went into the design, planning and writing of klockodile.com. I can’t tell you how many articles I’ve read about finding your blog or writing niche. Or how many times I looked up ‘add [insert design-element here] on wordpress’. How many annoying calls my best friend had to field about “ugh, your blog again?” Or how many people I texted with “What do you consider me a ‘go-to’ person for? What am I good at giving advice about? What kinds of problems do you trust/come to me with?”

While I enjoy travel, finances, food, bicycles and languages, what came up the most were personal development and interpersonal connections.

Of course! (Sometimes you need to ask the people around you to point out the obvious, right?)

I found my niche, so it’s somewhere to start. Though you’ll also find writing about the topics above, most of what you’ll find here will center on self improvement and relationships in many shapes and sizes.

My hope is that you’ll find little nuggets of either entertainment or growth from my anecdotes, reflections and lessons-learned-the-hard-way. Look for new stuff every Tuesday and let me know what you think, good or bad!
